CAMP ONE WORLD
"A World Apart, A Moment Together"
A unique camp opportunity for children with parents deployed overseas

A World Apart, A Moment Together

Through an award from the Texas Resources for Iraq-Afghanistan Deployment* (TRIAD) Fund from the San Antonio Area Foundation (SAAF), One World, LifeSize Communications and the American Red Cross of Central Texas have teamed up for the 2nd year to create a very special program for the benefit of children of military families who are faced with the challenges of having one or more deployed parent.  In the "A World Apart, A Moment Together" camp program, scholarships to One Worlds innovative performing arts summer camp will give up to 60 kids the opportunity  to be part of a dynamic, full-length musical production of The Wizard of Oz.

But there's more - through a partnership with LifeSize Communications the overseas parent will be able to see their child perform in real-time, and the kids will be able to see the pride on their parent's face as naturally as if they were in the actual audience.  At the end of the performance, each child and their family will be given the opportunity to interact with their deployed loved one privately.

What Camp One World Entails

Camp One World takes your child from auditions to stage in just one week!  On Monday, One World announces that everyone’s favorite little red truck returns with everything necessary to put on an amazing full-scale musical production on the One World Theatre stage….everything except the cast.  That’s where students age 5 – 18 come in.  In just one week, campers will go from auditions to opening night as they step on stage for a public performance as graduates of Camp One World 2010!

Led by national touring company Missoula Children’s Theatre, participants will learn how to produce an enjoyable piece of musical theatre from the inside out.  Working with MCT’s professional actors and directors, participants will gain hands-on experience in every aspect of the show’s production; from learning lines and dances to seeing the world behind the curtain as crew members, there’s something to spark and sustain each individual child’s interest during a unique week of summer fun.

The Wizard of Oz is a story is as familiar as it is beloved. That nasty tornado carries Dorothy and her canine pal Toto from the friendly confines of her Kansas home to a fabled fantasy of mystery and magic in the land of Oz. With the help of the Munchkins and Glinda herself, our young Miss Gale and her loyal pooch join forces with the dancing Scarecrow, the romantic Tin Man and, of course, the ever-popular Cowardly Lion. Off they go down the Yellow Brick Road – side-stepping Winkies and a Wicked Witch – on their perilous journey to find the Wizard and ask for his help.

Be a part of the magic as we create one world, one child at a time.  Camp One World helps turn children into characters while building their character ....the kind that really counts.  Participants not only learn their roles, but are exposed to music, instrument building and the art forms of diverse cultures from around the world, while they gain confidence in their ability to perform for family and friends on the One World stage!
